Who Was Melchior?
Christian tradition identifies Melchior as one of the Three Wise Men, or Magi, who traveled from the East to visit the infant Jesus. While the Gospel of Matthew does not name the Magi or describe them as kings, later Christian tradition gave them the names Melchior, Caspar, and Balthazar.
Their journey, guided by the Star of Bethlehem and accompanied by gifts for the newborn Christ, has become one of the most recognizable traditions associated with the Nativity.
