This Colonial Wool Tricorn Hat from Heritage Costumes looks decent in the product photos, but it falls short if you're aiming for any level of historical accuracy. The pictures make it seem like the hat has brass buttons or snaps to hold the shape, but they’re actually cheap caps with flimsy tabs — more like the closure on a manila envelope. The tabs don’t even fit the holes properly.

To make matters worse, the grommets used for the holes are a different color from the caps and are clearly visible behind them, which looks sloppy and inauthentic. If you're buying this for a Halloween costume or something casual, it'll do the job. But for historical reenactments or serious period wear, look elsewhere.

I thought the hat had snaps but it has push through pins that is used to hold paper and they don't actually fit well. In addition, the metal pins have the holders open on the inside of the hat. I am going to put tape over them to keep them from scratching my grandson. If the y-fastener brakes, this hat has no way to stay in a tricorn position. A little disappointed in this construction. Otherwise the material is good.
